At EcoZip, we’ve always believed that great adventures should do more than deliver a thrill. Yes, our ziplines are exhilarating, the views unforgettable and the stories our guests take home last a lifetime, but we’ve long felt a responsibility to ensure our adventures give something back to Aotearoa. That’s why we’re incredibly proud to partner with Moana Mark, a New Zealand charity dedicated to funding world-class marine research.

Although our feet are firmly planted on the whenua, the health of the sea, or moana, is inseparable from the health of the land. New Zealand is surrounded by one of the largest and most ecologically unique marine environments on Earth. Yet beneath the waves, things are changing fast. Warming seas, biodiversity loss, plastic pollution, sedimentation, and shifting migration patterns are putting pressure on species and ecosystems that have thrived here for centuries.

This is where marine research becomes essential. Robust scientific knowledge helps us understand why these changes are happening, what they mean for the future, and what actions will genuinely make a difference. Without good data, it’s impossible to protect vulnerable species, design effective marine reserves, or restore delicate ecosystems.

But this work isn’t just about conservation for conservation’s sake. For generations, Kiwis have enjoyed the simple, undeniable pleasure, and right,  of gathering a feed from the ocean. Whether it’s casting a fishing line off the rocks, diving for pāua and cray, or heading out for a day’s fishing with mates, our connection to the sea runs deep. It’s woven into our culture, our weekends, our whānau stories, and the way many of us were raised.

Moana Mark exists to help protect that way of life. By connecting marine researchers with the funding they need, the charity supports projects dedicated to understanding, preserving, and restoring the very oceans New Zealanders rely on for recreation, nourishment, and identity. Their work helps ensure future generations can continue to fish, dive, and collect kaimoana in healthy, thriving waters.

So how does EcoZip fit in? We wanted to contribute in a way that felt meaningful, easy for visitors to understand, and connected to the everyday guest experience. That’s why, for every one of our hugely popular Phone Bungees sold, we’ll donate $1 directly to Moana Mark.

It’s a simple idea with real impact: keep your phone safe while you zip and help protect the oceans that surround us.
