A question floated a couple of times a week in winter, and couple of dozen times a week in summer, is ‘where are you in relation to the island’s beaches or vineyards?’ The answer to which is, slap-bang in the middle, in fact you could say we’re at the heart of the island.
But if you don’t know Waiheke’s 93km2 intimately, it can sometimes be hard to visualise just how central we are.
So, we decided to enlist the help of artist David Bayer, to deliver a map that illustrates just how central we are, and how close are to the main access points to the island, for foot and vehicle passengers alike.
David’s recently completed map, in addition to being fun (check out the nudist having an encounter with a crab at Palm Beach, aka ‘nudie bay’), is a brilliant illustration of the proximity of Waiheke’s main points of interest, including vineyards, beaches, villages, ferry termini and the like.
For passengers coming by ferry from downtown Auckland, a journey of about 35-minutes, we’re a mere 15-minute guided tour from Matiatia’s ferry terminal. If you’re heading to Waiheke on the Sealink car ferry, we’re even closer, with a drive of just 7 minutes or so.
Pre- or post-zipline experience, we’re in easy proximity to dozens of the island’s main vineyards, bistros, cafes and restaurants, beaches, villages, breweries, art galleries and more. While you can ride our free shuttle, which picks up and drops off at points intermediate to our base and Matiatia, we also connect with Fullers 360’s hop-on hop-off bus, making much more of the island easily accessible.
If you’re planning on visiting Waiheke, and you’re keen to zip, our classic 3-hour experience is a great option, allowing you loads of time to see, and enjoy, Waiheke’s many, varied, highlights. Plus we partner with many of the island’s vineyards, restaurants and activity providers, giving you a one-stop-shop for planning the perfect day on beautiful Waiheke.
