June 6, 2023
Historians will recognise 6th June for another significant, and quite literally, earth moving event. If you’ve seen Saving Private Ryan or Band of Brothers you’ll know what we’re talking about. Otherwise, Google it!
For EcoZip Adventures, 6th June will always have significant importance as it’s the date on which we finally broke ground with our new Kaikōura site. This is the culmination of 9 years of planning and two false starts, courtesy first of an earthquake and then subsequently a pandemic. ‘Third time’s a charm’ so the saying goes and that appears to be the case here.
Over the course of the next 16 or so weeks, our team of builders, designers, engineers and project managers will prepare and install 5 giant ziplines at Rakanui Station, a working hill-farm, blessed with spectacular sea and mountain views, located 15 minutes south of Kaikōura town.
In addition to our ziplines, we’re building walking trails, improving roads and establishing a native tree and plant nursery that will, eventually, allow us to plant a native tree for every guest that zips with us.
Pictured is our managing director, Gavin, with Rakanui’s owner, Bruce Ensor. Today’s ground break follows a wonderful blessing of the site conducted by local kaumātua, Brett Cowan, of Ngāti Kurī, the Maōri Hapu for whom Kaikōura is their ancestral and contemporary home.
Recruitment for our Kaikōura team is expected to begin in August and September. If you’re interested in joining our team keep an eye on our recruitment page, or drop us a line at recruitment@ecozip.co.nz
We’ll keep readers updated on the progress of our build both here and via our social channels, like Facebook.
