Step into Nature’s Outdoor Classroom

Turn an adventure into a learning experience. EcoZip Adventures Kaikōura offers an award-winning zipline and eco-immersive forest experience set on Rakanui Station, a spectacular coastal hill-country farm. It’s an inspiring environment to combine EOTC opportunities with real-world learning and plenty of outdoor fun. Whether your focus is conservation, science, business studies, tourism, history, geography or team building, our programmes can be easily aligned with curriculum goals.

We specialise in hosting educational groups and can also co-design a visit that supports your group’s specific learning outcomes. Let us help you create a learning day like no other, one your students, teachers and accompanying adults will remember long after returning to school.

“Thank you so much for an unforgettable experience when we visited you in November! Our young people will remember this day for a very long time. EcoZip Kaikōura were professional, patient, highly organised, and incredibly supportive of our group. They ensured every young person received the very best experience.

A huge thank you to Nick and Andy. They were absolutely brilliant, and we can’t thank them enough for their patience and dedication. They ensured our young people with neurodiversity felt safe, respected, and supported every step of the way. We look forward to returning!”

Arrival & Welcome

Upon arrival at our EcoZip base in central Kaikōura, your group will be welcomed by our friendly team and guided through a smooth check-in process, final paperwork and weight confirmation before your transfer to the gear up location. Here, guides will then begin the safety briefing and assist with harnesses, helmets and lanyard fitting.

From this first stage, our team starts weaving your chosen learning themes into the experience. Each tour group of up to 12 students is accompanied by two highly trained guides, and each group requires one adult supervisor, who zips free of charge.

Ziplining through Rakanui Station

From our base, students will board one of our custom-built adventure vehicles, often the iconic 4X4 Unimog, for the journey to and up Rakanui Station. This transfer alone offers rich learning content, as you cross the fresh, braided streams of the Kahutara River and make your way through a 3,000-acre working hill country farm.

Once on site, a short, guided trail walk leads your group to the launch platform for the ziplines. From here, the adventure begins: 2.2km of flying fun across five giant ziplines, each delivering increasingly spectacular views of the Kaikōura ranges, farmland, and Pacific coastline.

Learning through Adventure

Our dual ziplines allow students to fly side-by-side with a classmate or teacher, creating a shared experience that builds confidence and connection in a supportive environment. Across all five lines, we weave in discussions on physics, land use, conservation, native flora and fauna, ecology, biology, geography, history and more, bringing classroom concepts to life in an unforgettable outdoor setting.

Educational and student groups are our speciality, and the natural beauty and diversity of Rakanui Station provide a powerful backdrop for meaningful learning. Let us help you craft a day that inspires curiosity, builds teamwork, and leaves every participant buzzing with new knowledge and confidence.

Please contact our groups coordinator at hellokaikoura@ecozip.co.nz to discuss your educational or EOTC needs and for details of our Safety Management System or simply download our Kaikōura educational brochure for more details.

  • We had not been on a zip wire before this trip. EcoZip staff were very welcoming and very professional.

We were well prepared for the zip wires and our guides did a great job making sure we were all set before each run. The walk back to the centre with some information about the local flora and fauna was a great addition. We would thoroughly recommend EcoZip.
