• Kaikōura Whales By Sea

    The ultimate marine experience

Be enchanted by the boundless beauty, and as a guest of Whale Watch Kaikōura and EcoZip, create memories with two of Kaikōura’s eco-friendly adventures.  Take a voyage to witness majestic marine giants in their natural habitat, then get strapped in for your flying lesson on EcoZip’s dual zipline, farm exploration and native forest experience*.

Jump onboard a purpose-built vessel to set sail into the deep blue pristine waters of the rugged coastline. Kaikōura is renowned for its rich marine biodiversity. As you glide across the waves, keep your eyes peeled for the iconic sight of giant sperm whales, graceful humpbacks and playful dolphins that call these waters home. A visual presentation ‘World of Whales’ also plays throughout your tour.

Led by a team of expert and knowledgeable guides, you will gain insights into the fascinating behaviour and habitat of these gentle giants and the conservation efforts dedicated to their protection. Whether you are a seasoned marine enthusiast or a first-time adventurer, you will have an immersive experience that will leave you inspired and humbled by the wonders of the natural world. Do not miss your chance to be a part of this extraordinary journey.

Upon your return to solid ground, in the company of a small, intimate group of up to 12 guests, you will begin your land-based journey of exploration. Our two seasoned guides prioritise your safety, ensuring you are fully equipped with the necessary gear before embarking on a captivating expedition aboard ‘Moggy.

Venturing onto the awe-aspiring 3,000-acre private Rakanui Station, where conservation takes centre stage, boasting picturesque landscapes and heart-pounding excitement that goes beyond the ordinary. Each zipline, ranging from 250m to 620m, allows you get up to speeds of 70kmh to glide across regenerative farmland as you revel in the uniqueness of your surroundings.

Following the zipline adventure, a brief stroll leads you back to ‘Moggy’ for the return journey to Kaikōura airfield. The adventure concludes with a scenic shuttle drive back to Kaikōura town, leaving you with not only memories of a thrilling experience but also a profound appreciation for the conservation ethos, a delicate balance of nature and the dedicated efforts to preserve it, that defines this remarkable journey.

*The order of these activities can be changed and it’s entirely feasible for your party to zip first, and boat later, even on another day, by prior arrangement; just speak to our friendly team who will be happy to help.

  • We had not been on a zip wire before this trip. EcoZip staff were very welcoming and very professional. We were well prepared for the zip wires and our guides did a great job making sure we were all set before each run. The walk back to the centre with some information about the local flora and fauna was a great addition. We would thoroughly recommend EcoZip.
